Some more good news for EV (electric vehicle) drivers, plans have just been drawn up for further expansion of 1,000 new charge points across England.
They are scheduled to be created in Nottinghamshire, Suffolk, Kent, Barnet, North Yorkshire, Warrington, Durham, and Dorset. The winners of the pilot will also include Midlands Connect, with Lincolnshire as the lead authority.
The proposed network will include faster on-street charge points and petrol station-style charging hubs. Added to that the network will also create a commercial EV charging infrastructure, as announced by the UK government.
The £450 million project
The current scheme of 1,000 new charging points is part of the initial £450m project which supports the government’s drive to encourage more motorists to take up the new generation of electric vehicles, which will go a long way toward the government’s overall emissions reduction targets.
What’s also being taken into account, is the project has also been created to help residents who are without private driveways to have access to EV chargers, in the same way increasing the presence of more and more charging stations across the country.
The overall goal
The overall UK government’s target is to fully phase out the need for fossil fuels, such as new petrol and diesel cars by 2030. The most important thing is to have an adequate network infrastructure that can cope with the increasing demand, plus give prospective buyers the confidence to invest in the expenditure of a new EV.
The pilot is being backed by £10m of government funding, with the support of an additional £9m in private investment. A further £1.9m will come from public funds across the local authorities.
Trundy Harrison who is the Decarbonisation Minister said “We want to expand and grow our world-leading network of EV charge points, making it even easier for those without driveways to charge their vehicles.”
“This scheme will help to level up electric vehicle infrastructure across the country so that everyone can benefit from healthier neighbourhoods and cleaner air.”
Edmund King, who is the president of the AA has been quoted as saying: “It is essential that more on-street chargers are delivered to boost the transition to zero-emission vehicles for those without home charging.”
What also needs to be noted is that the scheme will give the chosen local authorities the ability to provide feedback on how to grow the network and the role the private sector can play in making the transition as swift as possible for the UK in general.
Time to take EVs seriously
It’s inevitable that there will be a time when you have no alternative but to buy an electric car, this is the direction the country is going. The fundamental reasoning behind this, there is no other direction to go, and as we all know it’s vitally important for the environment and the planet in general.
WOO Carz, based in Southampton has invested heavily in providing used electric cars and used hybrid cars for the UK market. This is going a long way in helping those who prefer to buy used instead of the higher-than-normal prices for brand-new EVs. The prices have mainly been inflated due to the world shortage of microchips.
It can also be said that buying quality used electric cars from WOO Carz will give buyers a cheaper option, as well as more confidence that their chosen EV has been tried and tested already, but will still come with a full warranty.
As with all our used car stock, we deliver all cars free of charge to your home for our customers to do their own checks, test drive, and then take ownership of the vehicle. If you struggle to take the time off work, we can deliver to your workplace too, we deliver on Sundays.
