As one of the world’s leading electric car makers, Tesla is known in the industry for being light years ahead of its competitors when it comes to car sales, primarily through the Model S sedan which was first manufactured in 2012. Tesla is also the front runner in providing a robust supercharger network. So instead of relying on charging your vehicle at home, regarded as being very slow, Tesla has been busy constantly building a network of supercharging infrastructure throughout the UK. By doing this, it’s giving more electric car drivers an increase in confidence in driving long distances, with a detailed map of all the supercharger stations across the country.
One thing to bear in mind when charging your EV, it’s a longer process to recharge your battery than it is to refuel your car, so you’re probably looking at around 20 to 30 minutes recharging using a fast charging station.
Great idea in Germany
As a trial in Germany, Tesla is trying out the idea of having a heated swimming pool at a supercharging station as a way of providing some entertainment for drivers and occupants to relax whilst their EV is being recharged. Yes, it’s an unusual idea but it may catch on, especially during the current heatwave Europe’s been going through recently.
Tesla has also done a bit more to help quell the boredom that may occur whilst recharging your EV, it’s added software in its vehicles to give drivers and passengers access to Netflix, YouTube, or Disney+. There’s even an option to play Tesla’s car karaoke game called Caraoke. A great idea, especially if you have young children.
Another idea from Tesla is the creation of Qubes. This is working in partnership with a company called BK Group. These are basically small modular buildings with bathrooms, a communal area (including video games), vending machines, private pods for private phone calls or meetings, and even a pizza-making machine that will produce a delicious hot pizza in only four minutes.
The Qubes have already been given great reviews at the Supercharger station in Endsee, Germany, by Kyle Conner, a prominent YouTuber who reviews for Out of Spec Reviews. BK Group has recently announced the roll-out of around 200 of these Supercharger locations. For now, there are no immediate plans for these to be installed in the UK but if they take off in Germany, it will only be a matter of time.
What is significant about Tesla’s EVs and charging stations is they are making owning and driving its vehicles much more convenient and appealing, and they will continue to come up with more ideas to make the slower recharging process more fun than just having a rest stop, restaurant, cafe or toilets to hand for its customers and drivers.
