The world’s famous luxury carmaker, Aston Martin has announced plans that it will begin the manufacturing of its all-electric cars solely in the UK from 2025. This statement was first published in the Financial Times, that owner Lawrence Stroll was going to commit and confirm that all of their battery sports cars will be made in Gaydon in Warwickshire. St Athan, Glamorgan in Wales will manufacture all of their SUV electric models.
The company has also added that manufacturing will begin on the hybrid versions of its cars within the next four years, and then followed by the battery-only vehicles.
This news comes as an ever-increasing list of carmakers are setting out plans and time frames of moving away from fossil fuels, including the mighty Jaguar Land Rover, which only announced recently that all their cars will be all-electric by 2025.
Government plans
This of course has only come about in order to conform with the UK government’s plans on banning the sale of new fossil fuel cars from 2030. But there’s also some good news, the prestigious carmaker will still be making traditional engines for its big car fans and enthusiasts, so look out in the not so distant future for an update on this.
Bentley Motors
Another luxury carmaker, Bentley Motors, owned by the mighty Volkswagen has already announced in November 2020 that it plans to be fully electric by 2030, and the American car giant General Motors has said it will aim to be emission-free by 2035.
Partnership agreement
Due to its technical partnership agreement with Mercedes-Benz, Aston Martin’s Mr. Stroll has stated that full electrification plans for the group will not be an issue. Mercedes has a 20% ownership stake in Aston Martin, which will give both carmakers a massive advantage over its competitors.
Unfortunately, due to the current Covid crisis, the carmaker had announced 500 redundancies last year, but there are signs that the future is looking more promising, as more and more vaccines are being launched.
