The brand new Centre of Excellence has officially opened in Milton Keynes, which aims to provide “world-class technical expertise” in the car manufacturing sector. The site will be run by Intertek Group, with the focus being to help any car manufacturer making hybrid or electric vehicles to “accelerate their equipment and systems capabilities”.
The centre was opened by the Conservative MP for Milton Keynes South, Iain Stewart, alongside Andre Lacroix, the chief executive of Intertek Group, who said electric vehicles had a “pivotal role to play” in the transition to a low-carbon economy.
One of the reasons why Milton Keynes was chosen for the Centre of Excellence was the town has more charging points per person than anywhere else in the UK outside of London. A £1.1m grant funded by the UK government has enabled Milton Keynes to install over 250 more charging points across the region.
The whole project is specifically designed to test vehicles and systems, which include electric motors, inverters, axle modules, and a number of electrical systems. And this facility will be a key opportunity for companies to obtain access to the highest level of expertise in providing pioneering innovation for future generations of electric and hybrid vehicles.
Just how easy is it to charge your car in Milton Keynes?
With the second-highest number of charging points in the UK, second only to London, Milton Keynes provides more than enough access ports for electric vehicle drivers to charge their cars. However, there are reports that a high number of these charging points are broken or have been damaged. The whole reason why Milton Keynes has such a high number of charging points is because of the sharp increase in car owners switching to electric cars. So as it stands, it’s not as easy as you would expect to find charging points but the Labour councillor, Jennifer Wilson-Marklew who sits on the cabinet for climate action and sustainability, has recently stated that “it needs to be made as easy as possible and we look forward to working with all of our partners to begin this ground-breaking project.”
Be a part of the electric car revolution
One of the reasons why so many drivers are switching from fossil fuel cars to electric or hybrid cars is mainly because governments around the world are phasing out the production of petrol and diesel engine cars. By doing so, millions of pounds in the UK are being spent in providing adequate infrastructure for drivers making the cross-over seemingly more viable at the current time. Along the way, the world is experiencing a few hiccups, brought on by the never-ending pandemic, which has brought about a shortage of vital components required for making new cars. The result is a huge demand for used cars, this includes hybrids and electric cars.
One such used car dealership taking advantage of this increase in demand is Best Price Car Sales, based in Southampton. With a business model set up in providing a fully online car browsing website, combined with a free UK delivery service, our family-run business is providing a key service in assisting our customers in purchasing quality used cars at an affordable price.
